The vast majority of our patients are children and elderly people suffering from pneumonia, COPD, or other respiratory issues. Because of this, our oxygen needs at the hospital are quite significant.
When the power is not functioning properly (which is quite often), we have to resort to the use of oxygen tanks, which is a challenge in and of itself. Due to our rural location, getting oxygen tanks refilled involves sending them via jeep to a city 10+ hours away, and hoping that they are returned in time to treat the patients who need respiratory assistance.
Today, we will be purchasing two new tanks, to enable our practitioners to care for the patients here who need oxygen now. Hopefully we will be able to keep the air fresh and flowing.
