Our friendly neighborhood hotel owner, Prikash, invited us for dinner at his family home on the first night of बडादशैं (Dashain). This festival is the biggest holiday of the Nepali year, and lasts for over a week. We shared a delicious dinner of boka (male goat), matcha (fish), tarkari (curried vegetables), roti, and dal bhat, with Prikash and his whole family. Halfway through dinner, a random man showed up, demanded that the “white doctor” come with him, and whisked Dr. Brock (a volunteer 4th year resident from Yale) off on a motorcycle. The man had apparently been wandering through the village asking everyone where to find the white doctor. The amusing part was that no one had trouble directing him.
